Let’s be honest here – patch 1.01.4 is almost entirely bug fixes with zero gameplay changes. If you were hoping for balance adjustments, new content, or fixes to the major issues players have been complaining about, you might want to sit down for this one.

What Actually Changed (Spoiler: Not Much)
The most “exciting” addition? Weapon Type will now be displayed in each Armament Information menu. Groundbreaking stuff, right? You can now see what type of weapon you’re holding without having to guess. Revolutionary.
The real meat of this patch tackles some genuinely annoying bugs:
- Matchmaking fixed: Fixed a bug where matchmaking would continually fail after two players joined and left your team at the same time. This was actually a pretty frustrating issue if you were trying to get a consistent group together.
- Gesture bug resolved: Fixed a bug where the acquisition of the gesture “It’s Raining!” through Multiplayer would not register properly. For those completionists out there, this one’s for you.
- Revival exploit patched: Fixed a bug where playable characters might revive from a near-death state without being defeated during the battle with the third-day boss after leaving a session and returning from the title screen. This was essentially a free revive exploit, so consider this your nerf.
What Players Expected vs. What They Got
Looking at the patch history, players were probably expecting more substantial changes. Previous patches like 1.01.1 made single-player mode a lot easier by adding the effect “Automatic Revival Upon Defeat,” which allows revival once per night boss battle to solo expeditions, and increases the amount of runes gained for solo expeditions.
What players likely wanted:
- More balance adjustments
- Graphics card optimization fixes (this has been an ongoing issue)
- Duo support
- Voice chat additions
What they got:
- Bug fixes
- A weapon type display feature
- More bug fixes
The Bottom Line
This is a maintenance patch, pure and simple. FromSoftware is clearly focusing on stability and bug fixes rather than major gameplay overhauls. While the fixes address legitimate issues, don’t expect this update to dramatically change your Nightreign experience.
The game’s core challenges – the difficulty spikes, the limited multiplayer options, and the demanding nature of the roguelike elements – remain exactly as they were. Further updates will be distributed in the future, so maybe save your excitement for those.
For now, enjoy your slightly more stable Nightreign experience and that shiny new weapon type display. It’s not much, but at least your matchmaking should work better.
